Christmas Alphabet

C is for the curses that we heap on those we hate;
H is for the Hosts of Hell who at our bidding wait;
R is for the roasting that we always give our foes;
I is for the imps who like to tweak you on the ears and nose;
S is for the sins that make us feel so good;
T is for the toads within the haunted wood;
M is for the merry mass, as black as black can be;
A is for th'Abyss of Hell with vicars grilled for tea;
S is for old Satan who makes every witch his pet;
Be bad and he'll bring you everything
In your Christmas Alphabet.

Author's Notes: The story goes like this:--------
The choir at St. Goblin's-in-the-Fields, Devil's Tool Bridge, requested I write a little something for their Xmas carol service in 1992. This was my contribution to the evening's devotions which was well received and sung with gusto.
If you don't know the tune, get your grandmother to teach it to you!
