The Revelation of the Beast

See not my face, Child,
But my soul,
And tremble not.
Though you see within horror,
I am but a simple truth,
One that resides within us all;
For even the purest Angel may fall,
And the weakest Prey turn upon its Hunter.
See, Child, the Beast is part of all;
And in me, truly you see a glory,
As I am He and He is me:
Forever, the Beauty of the Beast.
Tremble not, Child,
Simply hear my words -
There is no innocence
Merely a foolish naivety,
You all hide the Beast somewhere;
Within your soul He resides always.
Tremble not, Child,
For fear is only an illusion.
If you knew how to find me -
The Wolf within the Sheep,
The Cat within the Mouse,
The Lion within the Wildebeest -
Never would fear trouble you.
Though many hate me, know this:
You cannot hide from me,
For I am always with you;
You cannot bind me,
For you would only bind yourself,
And I will always break free.
Tremble not, Child -
Close yours eyes,
Silence is coming,
It shall be all over soon.
Author's Notes: Inspired by three lovely Nightiwish songs, past poetry of mine, and a wonderfully ***ed up state of mind!
One reader told me his first thought was 'Satan', and well, he's not far off. This 'ere poem is a dialogue between two very different, opposite forces within the human body (or psyche) . You have the 'naive', for use of a better word, innocent child. This part of us is pure and unblemished; 'blameless in his ways' as one biblical quote would put it. Then you have the untamed, ferocious, tempting Beast. This part of us, I suppose, represents the Satan within us all - Loki, Coyote, Mars... the tempter, the trickster, the power.
The poem isn't about the Beast overcoming, or tempting, or corrupting the Child, but... it's more of it trying to find a balance. Like Yin and Yang. Even the most ferocious extremities contains part of the other, so there is no 'pure' innocence. However, the Beast's motives aren't pure. He still has his own side, tricking... and soon the Child will be Silent.
