Dedication to Dionysus

Age Group: Adult
The eagle breasts the darkling east
Above the mist-wreathed trees,
The fireflies cast their fickle light
Against the foam-hoofed seas.
The black bull slides from southern climbs
To graze amidst the vines
Beneath the wandering Harvest Moon,
While a fair man drinks young wine
Deeply from an aging vase
In the evening’s languid glow,
In a clearing where the weeping well
Holds a voice shed far below
In a world of endless shadow,
That he alone can see,
And the misted lake holds secrets
For the fitful canopy.
So bless us with your wine and song
In the fireflies’ living light
And share with us the silent awe
Of that still-shaking night,
Because we have long grown weary
With these endless swathes of grey,
So lead us into shadows
And we’ll learn to face the day.
Author's Notes: Writen to dedicate a new project (an ezine and community for lyrical writers and sensual artists, still in progress, watch this space!) to Dionysus, who seemed like a suitable patron to watch over it.
