The Bard's Song (for Ceridwen)

In youth, I strayed far from my mother
(Or perhaps it's that she strayed from me) ,
But my muse rumbled of her in the rockslides
And she whispered of her in the trees.
I tried once to escape from cold heartache
And I tried to escape from the pain,
But my muse, she pursued me like tidesong
In the salt-bite of tears and cool rain.
So I tried then to run from my calling,
Though in truth I was running from life,
But my muse she pursued me like tempests
In the blades of her wind-sharpened ice.
Then one morning I gave up and faced her
And I fell on the spears of her thirst.
So my muse, she consumed me like water,
Then she showed me the way to rebirth.
Author's Notes: A small, personalised poem written to take the form of Ceridwen's chase of Taliesin, written as part of the monthly "World in Art" feature I run on a pagan forum.
