Dark Night of the Soul

Age Group: Adult
I fell in the pit
fingers scrabbling for any purchase
I set this trap for myself
Dropping into the dark of the night
no stars or moon to guide me tonight
Nails ripped from their beds
blood trails the walls
Virtue sacrificed on the altar
of ignorance and vice
I have lost , my way in this labryrinth
no flaxen cord to guide me
the beast of my own making hunts me
it is myself, my scorned shadow
Pain of the mental type
rips me from the inside
drives me into the swamp
mud and weeds sucking me down
grey-green depths swallows the last of my breath
The dark that has no dawn
surrounds me now
salt from within me spills down my cheeks
stinging the rents that are in my spirit
the demon's breath is upon my neck
My legs pump faster
I drive myself harder
from the feelings of worthlessness
that darken my soul
*help*
A small cry in the darkness
the spark of a flame is struck
white light of hope blooms inside me
I call to those who can help me
salve to the burns that cover my soul
not to forget, but to learn from
the way may be hard
I had to face my fears
the beast, walks up, confronts me
a small tremor of fear
I stand my ground somehow
taking a deep breath, I admit my faults
I accept myself with all my flaws
they are beautiful in me
the Gods reach with open arms
friend find me in the dark
I have to stand on my own
support will be offered
arms will go around me
I am loved
I love myself
the light will shine within me
as long as I accept myself completely
I feed the fire with good thoughts
Help those around that I can
though I can get lost,
I will always be found
