Blood Ties

All packaged up in satin ribbon and glittery string
this life is a very mysterious thing
Ancestors long gone are honored and welcomed
with ritual, magick and sweet treats
Yet it seems that the soon to be ancestors
can be the ones that really test the seams
It has been said that we choose one family
the ones that start out friends and become much closer
but what of the one that we were born into?
how do you transverse the sea that throbs with the ties of blood?
Some say that you have chose the blood kin before you came to this life
Yet it seems that the closeness of this brings nothing but strife
Sometimes it is a beautiful tapestry
with gentle hues and detailed pattern
sometimes the weaving becomes a real snarl
colors muddy, strands torn
Mental health can falter
Sickness changes the warp and the weft
Change must come to all things
only time can heal the hurts
If we can remember that we are all in this together
if we can remember to love one another
if we can remember how to love ourselves
Then we will weave together all the things that are great about this family once again
Blood ties can be binding
With love they won't be so restricting
Author's Notes: Dealing with strife among family members is a very disheartening thing. Love and Faith will be the only things that will get us through.
