Mother Night

Her starry cloak covers the sky
gently tucking the sun in for his repose
Royal purple fades to deep sapphire
as he settles in the west
Those of us that are far below
look up into the depths
Gaze in wonder at the patterns
that she has woven
Ratri Devi !!

Guard us from what may harm us
Lay a gentle hand upon us
that our dreams will be safe
asleep or awake

Author's Notes: Ratri Devi is the name for the Goddess Night in the Hindu Pantheon. There is an exquisite hymn to her within the Devi-Mahatmya, where she is praised as the one who gives us needed repose and protects from harmful influences during her watch.
