Buzz Buzz Buzz
Bumbling dapper stripes
bouncing from blossom to blossom
gathering golden pollen
that is so nutritious
Sunlight from the Father
warms their motors
So many sisters working in unison
under the guidence of their Queen
to keep the hive live and healthy
brewing the honey
that sweetens so many things
The ancients knew of their wisdom
befriended them and learned their ways
gave them safe areas to keep their
buzzing communities
Using smoke to calm
then collect honey
to brew the sacred mead
Bears know their wild ways
tough claws and long tongue
collect golden nectar
from the hive hidden within the tree
Stings don't bother him
Communicating in the way of scent
and the directions to the flowers
a story told by a gyrating dance
all the sisters know the best way
so they can feed the needs
of the next generation
Buzz Buzz Buzz
Beautiful sisters
you have a lot to teach us
about the connections
of family
of community
of the duties to perform
so that there may be
a golden reward
that will feed the young of us
Author's Notes: I have made friends with the bees since I was a very small child. Mom used to scold me when I came in the house with some of my friends curiously climbing up and down my arms. I was always delighted to Very Gently pet their backs and to watch them for hours at their work in my mother's herb garden. Grandpa taught me to be gentle and to not fear them. I tell the younger generation that bees will not sting you if you don't try to hurt them. That is exactly what Grandpa told me so many years ago. I try to honor them as much as I can because one of my favorite beverages would not exist without them, Honey Mead!!
