Too Late

Age Group: Adult
Although time passes slowly
The sun has nearly set
And often now he wonders
Whether it was well spent
Or was he truly foolish
And squandered all his past
While all he thought to be his friends
Behind his back had laughed
Moments once merely touched by doubt
Now surely gripped and reigned by fear
That no one truly cares at all
To ease his heart as time draws near
With vision slowly dimmed to grey
He sees the coming of the night
And weeping in the creeping dark
Gives up without the slightest fight
Alas beyond his knowledge
Soon after he has taken leave
Too late to fill with warmth his life
Those claiming love for him do grieve.
