of thy blessed waters!
Give me to drink
for I'm thirsty and sore!
Give me to drink
of thy thrice-blessed waters!
Give me to drink
for I'd remember no more!
Oh! Once in my life
I touched a thing of beauty!
A warm thing of loving,
if not perfect or pure.
Once in my life
I touched a thing of beauty!
But beauty is shattered
and I'd remember no more.
Oh! Mem'ry is sweet
and dreams are a passion!
Mem'ry is sweet
and in the dreams would I stay!
Mem'ry is sweet,
and dreams are a passion!
But mem'ry must turn
to forgettance to-day.
Oh! Give me to drink
