Just As I Am (Part I)

by Mysteries Child

Age Group: Adult

"Just as I am without one plea..."

...but your bounds of "grace"
still exclude me
and if Grace has borders,
what Grace can it be?

O, "man of God, "
I cannot come.

"Just as I am without one plea..."

...but that I am just
what you tell me to be,
that I build my whole world
just according to thee.

O, "man of God, "
I cannot come.

"Just as I am without one plea..."

...unless I am perfect,
Jesus loveth not me.
To offer my soul
before you, Pharisee

O, "man of God, "
I will not come.

"Just as I am without one plea..."

...but just for a moment
try to listen to me
and for asking questions
don't nail me to a Tree.

O, "man of God, "
with this I come.

Author's Notes: When at last I gave my soul as was demanded in the churches of my youth, it was not in Christian terminology or to a specifically Christian God.

It was, at the time, to a nameless Mother Goddess. It was only later that I would recognize Her as half of a universal Divine Principle.

I'd still like to write the "Reverend" Jerry Falwell a letter, thank him for pushing me those first few difficult steps toward Paganism, and ask him if he knows that he and the church that follows in his footsteps have fully taken their place as the Christian version of the priestly class (ie the Pharisees) of the Jewish world of two millenia ago.

Still shake my head in sadness at the number of unwitting anti-Christ-ians who do not realize that the phrase "I have not come to repeal the Law, but to fulfill it" still nullifies the (in my view, Intentionally) crushing weight of Mosaic Law.

I also shake it in sadness for the fact that those very same anti-Christ-ians have succeeded in making thier view of Christianity the dominant one, not only within Christianity itself, but also among those who view the religion for one reason or another from the outside.

When someone who was raised in the Christian tradition has to become a Pagan in order to learn the true meaning of the word Grace, something is **badly** wrong.
