Inspiration

by Espirit Invictus
 Age Group: Adult

O the poet frets away Through dimmest night and longest day; Who, of rough or fine, couldst say E'er half he was or whole.
With downcast eyes and pen aflame He seeks the tremulous refrain That, in its telling, yea, wouldst deign To immortal make his soul.
Where heroes pass and nobles fade, Through poison, treachery, and blade, O there the poet's path is made. And there now must he go.
Author's Notes: When I feel a bit of writer's block coming on I'll recite this poem to myself. It tends to dredge up all the memories of myths and fantasies I've read and created over the years, and will usually bring some inspiration for a work. The piece itself was an impromptu. During a particularly bad case of writer's block I sat down and decided to blurt out whatever came to mind, and, putting on my neo-Shakespearean thinking cap, I spouted off what you see above. Luckily I had the presence of mind to write it down. ^_~
