The Rowan Tree

You stood tall
even though the rains came
and beat at your branches
You bloomed
even though the sun beat down
and burned your leaves
You gave fruit so that
others could be nourished
and fed with your love
Your roots held tight
even though the disease
flowed through you
You held yourself up
with respect and knowing
the end would eventually come soon
It took you away, this disease
but even still,
your flowers never stopped blooming
And in my mind
you are still tall and strong
and still very much alive!
Author's Notes: I dedicate this to my dear friend Rowan Snapdragon who has passed away in body, but never in spirit! He was very much like the tree and he fought a hard battle. The cancer took him but never took his love for others!
