Secrets to the Heart

The trappings of my heart.
The scars are my bars.
What pain keeps me so?
That scars would take so long to heal.
That finger’s touch, but never feel.
Why does my heart keep me so?
Why does the key elude me?
Why can’t I be free?
I see it in the suns morning rise.
I hear it in the gentle wind.
I feel it in the touch of women’s hand.
But the walls are there,
Whispering to be careful; do not get hurt.
Why can’t I be free? Where is love for me?
Why do I shut my senses down?
Why is it, to feel, I must run?
To be distant, to be a shadow.
Why will I not let my heart, touch another, and be free?
What stops me, from being me?
I have the courage to fight.
To push for what is right.
I have the wisdom to work for the light.
To have sight, and to sense the night.
I have the courage to stand up for what I believe in.
To honor my virtues, and worship the Gods and Goddesses.
I have the courage to believe in love.
Even though I fall every time.
I have the strength to fight, for another’s life, and love, and heart.
But why not my own?
The trappings of my heart.
The scars are my bars.
What pain keeps me so?
Author's Notes: It has been a long couple of days. Letting my guard down hurt me, my friends, and my family. Some times I should not be so foolish, to trust... another. In memory of 3/10/05 through 3/12/05 It is not easy saying I'm sorry.
