Let the Truth be Told!

by Manu's Wolf
 Age Group: Adult

For years and years it went this way, Wandering without a clue. The world was real, or so I thought, I had all my life in view.
I knew what I was bound to be, A firefighter, a nurse, a cop. That was the little childhood dream, But then again I didn’t know a lot.
I grew and grew still naïve of the world, I memorized what I was taught in school. The one-sided lessons were all I knew, But I was later to discover the fool,
The fool that sat so close to my head, The one that was blinded by them. The one that was telling me all of these lies The one that had fully succumb.
But then I was blessed as the tides, they had turned, The winds now blew a new way. A chance was at hand that I couldn’t pass up, I knew that I could not delay.
Traveling here and moving to there, My life was being filled at last. New information had told me the truth, So much different from my everyday class.
The confederates were good, while Grant was bad, The Boston Massacre was not what it seems, While Washington may have been a hero, He broke many lives and many dreams.
Davie Crocket didn’t have a glorious death, Columbus didn’t discover America, The Natives were ravaged, beaten, and killed, But the truth is still lain undercover.
General Custard was a silly fool, He led his men against too many. He tried to capture women and children, But he paid with his life to the penny.
So now you know what history won’t tell For the dead rest in silence where they lay. They cannot tell what really happened, They can’t make historians pay.
They cry and they weep over the lies told over, While we continue to make quite a scene. The facts are twisted, the truth untold, And no one will know what the clues mean.
But rest easy my friend for I am here to call, The voices of the mute will be heard. I will tell you what was truly supposed to be told I will tell you all that I have learned.
Don’t look with your blind eye Don’t turn a deaf ear. Don’t think that I’m lying, Or you simply won’t hear.
Author's Notes: This poem was written after I traveled around the country for two years. I learned so many things that were falsified at my small town school back in Pennsylvania. This poem reflects many of the things that American historians cover up and glorify to suit their needs and make America sound better than everyone else. I hope that everyone who reads this poem gains at least a little bit of understanding about history. You always have to look at both sides of something before you can truly judge it.
