I love the smell of Harleys
In the morning:
Taste of Freedom
Oil and gasoline awaken
Membranes dulled
By lack of sleep and
Extra caffeine
I love the sound of Harleys
In the morning:
Song of Freedom
Low, strong rumbles
Match my heart like
Old rock-n-roll and
Heavy metal love songs
I love the sight of Harleys
In the morning:
Ride to Freedom
Low-riders, chopped-out
Beauty, reminders
Of days gone by and
Party-hearty friendships,
Face pushed close to
Leather-clad warrior,
Pride and purple-metal flaked

Author's Notes: Now, this poem...this one was written in my mind as I stood curbside on McAllister and University at Arizona State University, waiting to cross the road to one of my classes. I heard from a distance the unmistakable sound of the Harley and watched as it passed. He reminded me of someone I had known earlier in this life. How wonderful that the memories so conveniently sift out the unpleasant and leave a tender touch to the vision!
