The Warrior Uplifted

Age Group: Adult
The warrior rises to fight another day,
his horns askew, his heart on his sleeve
his head bowed always in melancholy contemplation.
I approach from the side, slowly... gently
Palm open, offering tidbits of friendship
Hoping he’ll lift his head ... and smile
Back arched, hooves scratching the ground
Pacing circles in his lonely waiting game
Sometimes knowing what you want
Can be more solitary
Than walking the road alone
Open your fist, lift your head ... I'm here
There is beauty all around you
You capture it with your shuttered eye
But do you really see it?
Can you feel it?
Do you know it?
Or is it all in shades of blue?
So again I approach
stepping softly through the melancholy air
Palm open, eyes open, heart open
Shoulders you can lean on
We’ve been friends before...
Will you lift your head and let me in again?
