Kyrie Eleison

Hymns rise like frankincense smoke,
And followers fall to knees.
Dry wafers and cheap wine chokes,
As The One God decrees.
Luxury and dogmatic decorations
Do nothing but emphasize
That this patronizing man of holy implications
With me, cannot sympathize.
Kyrie eleison,
Christe eleison.
He stares with heavy resentment
At Thor’s Hammer on my chest.
He demands that I repent
For my sins, heresy and the rest.
Hatred rolls off worshippers in a wave
And I can scarcely draw a breath;
I would run for the pure air I crave,
But instead stand tall, as if awaiting death.
Kyrie eleison,
Christe eleison.
They wait for me to crumble
And yield to their conversion.
But, recalling some ancient heathen sumble,
An eternal vow strengthens my aversion.
They expect me to forgive?
They expect me to give in?
Beneath their rule I refuse to live,
And, by the heathen troth I remain driven.
Kyrie eleison.
Christe eleison.
Author's Notes: I don't like being in churches. I've never had a single positive experience in one. Of course, my Catholic family doesn't make things any easier. I love them but I'm sick of them shoving their religion down my throat. I wrote this after a funeral for a family member that was in a church and I had a bit of an altercation with an overzealous priest.
Note: 'kyrie eleison' is Greek for 'lord have mercy'. 'Christe eleison' translates to 'Christ have mercy'. A sumble is a type of a Norse-tradition gathering where boasts and oaths are made. Figure it out.
Disclaimer: I don't hate Judeo-Christianity or Judeo-Christians. I hate the oppression and the dogma that comes out of it and I hate what some people do, but I do not hate the people. I know it comes from other religions too but those aren't the ones I'm talking about. So don't yell at me because I will yell back.
