Little Girl and the Bear

by Gwydion Ap Alder

Age Group: Adult

Looking at a picture of a huge Bear being touched by a little girl….What do you see?

A child in deadly danger? Or perhaps a child with her best friend?

A gentle giant connecting with a sweet innocent heart?
A peaceful connection between Man and Nature.. touching each other with Love?

What do you see?

I see gentleness, I see a delicate, tender connection between living beings, I see Love!

Also I see respect and affection mixed with great forbearance and restraint.

Of the two creatures of Nature represented sadly the human is the truly dangerous beast.

Bears have been hunted and trapped and poisoned by mankind nearly to extinction.

Mankind’s Ego-fear mixed with his greed to control the land and reap all of its wealth.

Have driven bears nearly out of existence, depriving our world of an amazing creature.

Man with his meddling and destructive tendencies has pushed Nature out of balance.

So far off balance that now honey bees are threatened and with them the very food that man needs to survive.

A bear operates from instinct and within Nature’s guiding, man too often is led solely by his ego and greed.

We do not have much time left, the balance is slipping, we may be creating our own Armageddon by our arrogance.

Likely man will figure it all out in time for ourselves but will we do so in time to save our great cousins of the wild?

Such a loss would seem insignificant to most of humanity, but my heart breaks, for each extinction lessens us as a whole, each death touches us all.

For we are all Connected, and even though mankind has placed himself above and apart from Nature the reality is Earth is our home and what threatens one threatens all.

Let us work together to reduce our impact upon this precious Earth, She that is our Mother, let us strive to coexist with the creatures with whom we share this our only home.

Blessed Be Nature, Blessed Be the Creatures of the Earth , Blessed Be Mankind, ……

May Harmony Find You, and May Mankind Awaken to Connection with Nature and with Each Other.

Author's Notes: Written following my viewing of a photo of a Huge bear lowering his head to be touched by a tiny girl-child. The gentleness and peace of the photograph awed me.
