Upon Reflection

Upon reflection ...
Through the glass darkly
Or was it through the looking glass?
Where white rabbits breed
Mindlessly pushing
And pulling
Amidst a cacophony of nails ground on chalkboards
By the ghosts of lifetimes past
In classrooms long abandoned
By hope's eternal silence
The drones still wheeze and sputter
Like rabbits themselves
Heedless
Absorbed in their own base desires
They breed
And need
And feed
And gaze up at you through empty eyes
So hopeless lost amid the maelstrom
Mad hatters all
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know
Pour her tea with several lumps of sugar laced with saccharine
Vile and cancerous
From lullabyes and faerie tales
Where babies fall from treetops
Wolves eat frail, arthritic grandmothers
And bulemic damsels devour and disgorge their poison apples
As if on cue for good Prince Charming
Heedless of the consequences
Pathetic
Brainless
Harpies
How they loathe me
Face me, you coward!
Face me, you pretender!
Shards peel slowly from the mirror
Sliding
Slithering downward in a cold stream of antifreeze
Liquid shards
Robotic tears stored up in Wonderland
For wicked stepfools
Such as I
Upon reflection
