Willow and the Wanderer

The willow sends her roots
Deep in the ground,
Searching for water beneanth
The rich cool mound.
The wanderer plays his flute
Before an armored face
Calling her to again awake
To her proper place.
He gladly comes courting her
With precious pearls
And songs piped from his reed
While the wind swirls.
When the clouds hide the sun
He is always there
Blowing them gently away
Tho she be unaware.
How long will the willow hide
Behind her many vines?
Will she remember him at last
Or ignore his signs?
What the lonely wanderer craves
Is such a simple thing.
Merely fulfill an ancient vow
To ease this sting.
