Leaving

I have a friend but shes so much more,
so close and dear to my heart.
I have trouble explaining how much she means,
and how much it hurts to be apart.
She lives up in the mountains,
where the air is crisp and clear.
She sends me letters and poems,
all of which say I like it here.
She writes of stars and streams and skies,
and how the mountains whisper her name.
She seems not to want to leave this place,
I understand- Id feel the same.
Time is short and counting down,
and June is around the bend.
I feel that it may break her heart,
beyond what time can mend.
To me it seems utterly absurd,
but I guess their dreams they must chase.
But I will never be able to understand,
how anyone could leave this place.
