Like Mother Like Daughter

As I Held my daughter in my arms for the first time…
I had great hopes and dreams for her…
As my mother had hopes and dreams for me…
As I Watched my daughter grow into a young woman…
I had high expectations for her…
As my mother had high expectations for me…
As I Knew the obstacles that she would have to face…
I had to teach her to be independent and strong...
Those things my mother didn’t know how to teach to me…
As I sympathized with my daughter when she found and lost love…
I wanted to let her know that I shared her pain…
All the pain my mother would never share with me…
As I Panicked when my daughter pulled away from me…
I screamed at her in desperation as she ignored me…
Just as I did to my mother and she had done to me…
As I Behold my daughter from a distance, lost in confusion…
I See her in my dreams…I hold her in my arms and this time I tell her “I love you”…
As my mother wished she could have said to me…
As I Turn to my own mother with a frantic plea…
She says…Just wait…Your daughter will find her way…
Just as you, her mother did without any help from me…
Author's Notes: Inspired by raising an indpendant and strongwilled child. She's a Scorpio!
