quantum dysfunction
by darkling

what if
in spite of the modern
psychological diagnostic paradigm
i AM the exact center
of the infinite universe
and i manage to close
that umbrella of inner chatter
and find my core belief
like a bright polished silver statue
chain smoking generic cigarettes
next to that old tin ashtray
that sat on the table
by the old man's recliner
where he had once held court
and ruled upon the world
(and, of course, me)
with the anger of a broken childhood
and white trash wrath and meanness . . .
while worlds line up like run on sentences
and in one long breath
and a few hundred syllables
i realize that once again
the polished chrome steel
bunker of my belief
has wordlessly
yet succinctly
reminded me not only
am i locked out of the bunker
i am out of cigarettes . . .
. . . and suddenly there was light . . .
