Tree's Lament

Tree’s Lament
My beloved passes through my limbs
Sighing to me softly
Of places far away
Tracing each leaf with feathered kiss
Kisses of shimmering air
He brushes back my flowing mane
Leafy green sings with him
Kissing back
Kissing back as best I may
This dance as old as I
I know he has other trees
Some with canopies fuller than me
But what else can I do?
I am only a reaching tree
Sprouted one spring from a seed
Coaxed from my shell by the sun
And his calls over the loam.
Once I loved that shining sun
Strove to touch with spreading limbs
But here alone I stand
So very very alone
A singing bird rests in me
And a child lets it be
Listening to her love struck song.
And all I have is the wind.
