No Thunder

Sometimes
She comes to me in twilight
The sky lavender darkening
And by some magic
For almost a moment
The freeway's rushing rumble
Fades to a silence
That is straining toward forever

This world is dark
Finds brilliance only by jagged chain
No thunder
Just the flash
Flick flicker flash
And the hot smell of rain
We
Strangers run
Seek shelter from some shadow
No one questions what we hide from
None left with the answer
No time left to ponder
Flick flicker flash
Another hundred thousand vanish
Dark no thunder
We
Wait in lines
A million strangers long
All trace of friend and family gone
No one wonders why
Or cares where they're headed
Flick flicker flash
Fifty eight thousand vanish
Hot smell of rain
She
Sits not in or out of line
In a white dress
Too clean for these times
No one else sees
Flick flicker flash
She is color
I have lived
Only black and white
Flick
Her eyes
A color I have never seen
I cannot meet them
Flick flicker
Her finger
To her lips she whispers
'Hold the secret close'
Flick flicker flash
It all vanishes
I am the dark
She, the smell of hot rain
Flick. Flicker. Flash.
