autumnal affective
by darkling
Age Group: Adult
another summer ends
leaving only hot behind
but there are no endings here
on the horizon
dark clouds build toward the afternoon
never offer to shade this land
to see the green leaves shocked
into brilliant yellows!
impossible reds!
and before it all falls into ending
the goldening!
dusty fiction
the stuff of myth
for comes no color to this land
leaves green into december
no technicolor endings
edges brown crusting
from the santa ana's dry breath
as it pulls the dead dry green
from boredom stunted trees in this land
invisible weather
the starkness of the sameness
overwhelming
stifling as a still afternoon
