The Three Wisemen

As the Baby Jesus lay
A star shined down as bright as day.
The wise astrologers of old
Predicted that this would unfold.
King Herod summoned them in fear
To ask if He was far or near.
The Wise men three did not know why,
Of course they did not tell a lie.
They knew from ancient prophesy
In Bethlehem is where He’d be.
Disturbing news they told the king
For Micah prophesied this thing,
That someday would this child rule
Jerusalem . 'Turned Herod cruel!
King Herod was on killing bent,
And so the wise men he did send.
The magic men were innocent
Not knowing what their good king meant.
They brought Him gifts, the wise men three
Gold, incense, myrrh on bended knee.
For what they sought, they’d told the news
The Babe, a new king of the Jews.
Now prophesy was not a crime
Nor watching stars, in Jesus’ time;
Until King James, to keep control
Ruled death for wise ones in this role!
Author's Notes: I wrote this for a Christmas card. It questions (in the end) an objection to Wise-craft.
