Stand Still

the glass is breaking,
the earth, shaking,
and I cannot make it still.
the river is empty, dry,
and I cannot make it fill.
if the sky could bleed
I'd tear it all to shreds.
I'd wash away the night,
the liquid molten sorrow
with the blood of sunset
and tomorrow.
the circle circles back
and round it comes again,
another round of lies
to drown the truth
that burns within.
sorry is the smallest word
and far too large to hold,
and it's to late to say,
come sun,
when it's so very cold.
I cannot reach you now
or find my own green hill,
but to let you go
is more than I can stand.
I cannot stand still.
