She Turned to Stone

She said to me,
arms outstretched,
desperately,
let him go.
Accept fate, or let him go.
Her life she showed me
in the twine
and the lines on her face.
And I don't know myself
hunched over the loom
and gazing,
hair long and graying
as it grows.
She lived long and alone.
She saw his death
in the mirror's depths.
She watched him leave,
lost what she tried to keep.
She watched him die
and couldn't weep
a single tear.
She turned to stone.
She tried to twist fate
and found the truth
too late.
She turned to stone.
