Paper Moths

Age Group: Adult
Words fall from my lips
and flutter away,
silent white moths
as frail as gossamer.
The only sound, paper wings
in the cool twilight.
Searching for the light,
in the darkness they are devoured,
powdered sugar morsels
quietly drowned
in the maw of shadow teeth.
So delicate and elusive,
these soft-boned hopes
with translucent wings
of wax and wire.
Constructed to fly,
they are only living to die.
