Battle Maiden
by Sgian Dubh
Age Group: Adult
When battle breaks and all looks bleak,
Blighted with the blaze of blades;
The cacophonic crash of cannons ;
Weary with wounds and whelming war
Alight you then on fighting field
The Battle-maiden called Brigantia
In flaming radiance all aglow
To dress my hurts with your sweet song
And bind my bleeding injuries;
To pluck a note of courage on my heart,
To show a spark, a light, a candle’s flame
Of hope, to prove the fire of victory
Stands yet akindle, glowing unrelenting
And calling us to high heroic feats;
To stand beside us in our times of woe
To be a flame of passion when, weary,
We have lost the will to carry on,
And be the whetstone to our blunted hearts,
And forge and hammer our unfinished ore
To shining, sharpened steel. This do we owe
To you, Brigantia, Maiden of the Field
For what we give one hundred fold you yield.
