Glass

I have seen the graveyard
Of your heart
Walked the muddy path
Among the anonymous
Skeletons of wooden crosses
Markers of your victims
Aspects of Self, smothered
Buried alive
There are no flowers
And no one mourns
You are glass to me
Brittle and transparent
I know the prisoner you hold
The part of yourself you deny
That which you have beaten
Neglected
Starved
The chains have slipped
From those bony wrists
And it rages
And will be denied no more
Hear this
What you beat down to keep down
Cannot be kept
And when it finds a way to surface
It will own you
Truth
Your shadow is upon you
And no one will come close
To help you bury your dead
There are no flowers
And no one mourns
