A Mother Remembers

I remember.............
I knew you in the beginning.
You swam in the primordial waters in which you were born.
I was thrilled with the abundance of new life.
You thrived in my loving care..........
I knew you as you evolved.
You took your first steps away from my womb.
Unseen, I watched as you changed again and again.
I provided for you and you became strong.......
I knew you as you grew.
Your intelligence and your vision set you apart from all my creations.
I was pleased that you remembered and honored me.
You excelled and I was proud...........
I knew you as you changed.
You were no longer content in one place and spread, always growing.
Saddened, I watched as you grew away from me.
Your needs were different, yet I did what I could............
I knew you as you became creators.
Your creations wounded me and left scars upon my body.
Heartsick, I watch as you plunder the gifts I gave you in love.
You take and take and still you want more........
I know you now as you have become.
You are no longer content with the bounty that I provide you.
Heartsick, I watch as you plunder the gifts I gave you in love.
You take and take and still you want more........
I dream now of what you could become.
I remember you in the beginning and the hope I had for you.
The hope I have for you still, nurtured by those who still honor me.
Now I remember and I wait........
