by Autumn L.

Age Group: Adult

Shivering when dark fell on the hope inside me.
Awakened when the second sight flicked on and I saw,
I saw,
I saw,
I saw.
Descended when I cast shadows in the pit of my own fears,
Enraged when the smell of the madness flower blossomed under my fingers beating the dirt.
Tortured when the stars pattern split and cracked my vision,
Curious when bitter secrets began to sweeten as I licked away the blood,
Aching for faith, tasting my truth without knowing.

I knew my side had changed as reality was shaken, all hope lost in loyalty to God.

When wisdom was kissed unto me, and would be stolen only by another's lips.
When I felt the candles flame stretch under my trembling hands that nursed it,
When I fell to monstrous mercy of the inhuman and saw them stand as true as death,
When I woke to find the dreams beginning to pass as fate,
When the signs spelled pain in the shadows.
When the moon burned its marks into my soul.

Nothing kept me from faith but the faith itself as I ran.

Burned to dust in the cage of my old ways and new mistakes,
Reformed in an image I’d only whispered,
Trained under dark of night in cloth of brown,
Gifted for truths I had buried in spirit,
Stretched across the stars in my search for connections.

My reality held stronger under the deep crackle of power.

When I bound the sage in black and cast it to the flames, it broke the curse.
When I lit the crystal brighter than the sun, it held my strength.
When I wrapped them in chains and crushed them with peace, safety was won.
When I tugged at the gates of my soul to flow freely to my patient, rivers of life sprang forth.
When I mused my Gods into arts I couldn’t touch, and they demanded I use their gifts.

Conversion was destiny, and destiny was belonging to the Gods.
