The Death of a Dream

Does the star-spangled banner still wave
Over the land of the free
And home of the brave?
Have we lost our country?
Did we let go of
All that we dreamed?
Look how he dumps
All our freedoms out the door
As if they were his trash,
As if they were rotten.
Look how he fights
To take us back
To a time when we cried,
A time when we died
For our true rights.
What happened to the American Dream?
Did we say, "Here you go, "
To a man who believed
It was no more than a passing thought?
Where is my American Dream?
Did he steal it while I slept?
Did he rip it to shreds?
Fools are we not to see
Through this man's lies.
He said he loved this country.
Why, then, does he change it?
Why does he destroy the American Dream?
Why does he bring tears to our eyes
As he uses his power
To take away rights,
As he starts a war
We didn't want to fight,
As he kills Hope,
Our shinning light?
The star-spangled banner does not wave.
Its stars have died out,
The stripes all have fade.
Lady Liberty cries
As Her children's hearts
All slowly die.
