I hear their shouting, yet I feel no fear.
The door shakes widely from their pounding.
My mind’s eye focuses to bring a vision clear.
Self-righteousness burns deep within their eyes.
The fire of Christianity lights it.
They stare at me and spew contempt and lies.
“You’re the devil.” “You are Satan.” “You are evil to you core.”
They smile their wicked grins.
Then someone grabs me and pushes to the door.
They drag me out into the dark of night.
Their torches are ablaze with hatred.
My anger builds and prods my soul to fight.
I won’t feed their fury by adding to their strength.
They feel no resistance from me.
I concentrate my energy and calm myself at length.
I’m taken to a courtyard under guard of many men.
For some reason they fear me and anxiously look to the crowd.
I can hardly believe this is happening again.
They tell me “Look to God for salvation of your soul”.
There is shouting as the crowd builds to a frenzy.
But I look look to the Goddess with her hand outstretched to hold.
Now they walk me to the stairs and to a platform climbing ever higher.
The people cheer and curse me wildly as I climb.
They tie me to the stake around which they light their fire.
I look out at the masses as they mill around and roam.
Suddenly someone shouts for me to burn in hell.
Then the Goddess takes my arm and gently leads me home.
