"The Shadow of a Man"

I walked alone down the deserted street
Only to see your shadow under the tree
The shadow is lerking,
as if hanging from the branches,
What are the chances
That it is really you?
Is it my mind playing tricks,
Or are you really there?
It is a thought I have every day,
when I walk alone down that deserted street
The street is my life,
I survive in that street
Only to find that you are never there
You left me all alone,
It just isn't fair!
We were suppose to have a life,
and you left me, your wife.
You cheated, you lied,
It must be an art,
to be that careless with my heart
Now you are never to return
to that tree on the deserted street
That shadow of a man is gone in defeat.
Author's Notes: I write this because I mark an anniversary with an ex husband. He is no longer in my heart or mind, but on this anniversary, this poem came to light and I felt the need to write it.
