Just Smile

 Age Group: Adult

"Just Smile" by AmberMoonstone 9/12/05
Just Smile, that was something my Nana said No matter what little girl, just smile
My heart was breaking,
but I "Just Smiled"
Living in the 50's as a child was just like the black and white movies, very squeaky clean and proper A child was only to be seen and not heard No waves, no voice, no existence. You were told what to do, what to eat and what to wear, And you were expected to do it. If you were rebellious you were beaten with a strap or worse, not fed.
And I "Just smiled",
Punishment was not being able to have a meal Or getting your bicycle or rollerskates taken away In My case, I was the poster girl for "perfect" I knew my place and knew it well.
I never realized that abuse wasn't part of a child's life You accept things to be normal when it is happening to you. Mental and physical abuse was rampant in the 50's and 60's Children had no rights, nor any voice
And we "Just Smiled"
I speak up now for all of those children of the 50's and 60's We are valid people, we do have a voice We are alive and well and I believe one of the strongest generations that have come along. We are the backbone of this country, Even though we are called the yuppies
No one will ever make as much progress as we have!!!!
And that makes me "Just Smile"
We have seen amazing things in the television world, going from black and white TV to sattelite TV of today!! We have grown up on all the old classic movies and shows with a wide range of immense trivia knowledge. I can beat anyone at trivia pursuit!
Not to mention our amazing contribution to the music world!
And that makes me "Just Smile"!
So here's to you my generation, Bravo, for all that you have done to make this country what it is today. We are the best.
So "Just Smile"!
