The Street Corner, The Man, and the Lesson

by Amber Moonstone
 Age Group: Adult

"The Street Corner, The Man and the Lesson"
by AmberMoonstone 2/10/06
On the way to work last week, I stopped at the red light, In that intersection, I saw him.
I was overcome with emotion, In a matter of a red light, I was forever changed.
He was dressed in dirty clothes, with a torn hat, ripped gloves, worn out boots.
This man, standing on this street corner, reached down and picked up the biggest clump of garbage. It looked like a street sculpture of littering trash.
I watched him pick it up, walk over to a dumpster and throw it away. Somehow in that instant I began to cry.
Here was this man, downtrodden, with nothing, caring about this street corner. This gesture, made me realize how much we take for granted.
I was crying because of his compassion, and his love for the beauty of the environment. I was awoken to the beauty of the day on that morning.
I was reminded to be careful and to take care of Mother Earth.
I go the same way everyday, stop at that same light, and smile with tears in my eyes.
"Thank you, and bless you", I say as I drive through that intersection.
I look for this man, but he has not been there this week.
Each day, I send out blessings to him. I am sure he is receiving them, and perhaps that is why, I cannot find him on that street corner!
Author's Notes: I was truly moved by this small act of caring. I now hope I never see him again! I am sending out good energy and positive karma so that his life is going well. The small things in life are the most important ones.
Peace, Love and Light, Amber Moonstone
