My Goddess

Lady of rolling hills and sweet flowers
Caressing the children brought from Her womb
Fell against the man bearing cross towers
Who locked Her in a cold, dark catacomb.
From the Lady He took the Sabbats four:
Coloured eggs, Yule trees, making them His own
Frightening Her children to love Him more,
And through His hand fell the Mother, Maid, Crone.
He ordered them to kill all the others
Who did not follow His wrathful teachings
But ‘twas His flaw to doubt that the Mother
Would triumph despite His men’s harsh preachings.
For all His might, the Lady keeps Her own
And His foolish tactics lost His renown.
Author's Notes: A sonnet I wrote for English class.
The Lady is the Goddess, of course, and the He, or the man bearing cross towers is the Chirstian God.
