I'm gonna tell you I love you...because I do...

I just wanted for you to know...
that just because I live so far away, and I
can only write letters to you, and
I am not with you in the house that
you're in...
doesn't mean..
that I am NOT there in
your life, wanting
the best things for you, nope!
NOt a Chance!
I'm gonna tell you I love you.....
because I do!
When I left you all so long ago,
on that wintery day...because I
got so sick, and I just couldn't deal
my life as I knew it to be,
never meant for you to suffer too...
for you to think that I just up and
walked right out of your
lives, like I never wanted to
be with you at all, nope!
Not true, at all!
I'm gonna tell you I love you.....
because I do!
When I left for the war, and man that
was a time ago, but , even so,
I held in my tears, and had a stiff upper
lip...priding myself, in the strength I could
muster, just to say a simple "goodbye".
I was weak in my heart, mind and soul, and
it hurt like M.Fker! I couldn't tell you anything,
I was bound for a dark place, even I
couldn't share.
I want you to know....
I 'm gonna tell you I love you....
because I do!
I left you wondering why, I never
came back from the store...I said
"gone to get groceries" but, not really....
left on the eleven o clock plane, bound to
do a duty far off, somewhere...in a no mans'
land!
I am sorry I could not say just why...
I know that I left you hanging...but, that's not
how I truly feel...
I'm gonna tell you I love you....
because I do!
I went to a place where time
clocked out differently...
the jungle was a fearsome place, ...
my comrades were all there, like an
immediate family...
.I couldn't tell you the horrors I went
thru, but, I did think about you, every day,
and every night, even if I dared not speak of it.
I played cards, I thought, I wrote, I felt, I smoked...
the life I had was grimey and rough....
always moving, and scary too!
There were times, I am sure,
you wondered if I had really
gone, or if I had just moved right on...
Noope!
I'm gonna tell you I love you....
because I do!
WHen and IF I make it thru,
I am gonna come back, and damn,
I'll show you!
I hold you, so tight, your tears'll fall
right,
down past your cheeks, right
down
to the floor,
You'll be so happy, when I
walk thru the door!
I 'm gonna tell you, that no matter what
I love you, no matter what...
take you for all you are,
and love you to your very
core!
I'm gonna tell you I love you.....
because I do!

This poem was inspired by two things...it's actually a three-way combo....partly of my dad...but, also when I was writing the poem, I started to merge the idea of what my dad would have said to me..along with the memories of soldiers long time past..that never had the chance to say a proper goodbye...and this is dedicated to those families, and friends that have lost a person to war....now, and then, (They would have said, "I love you!" I am sure of that!)
This is also dedicated to those long lost and not lost soldiers of the here and now, and of the yesteryear....just know, they loved you!!!.
another thing that also inspired me, is a true story about a civil war soldier (ghost) that scared the daylights out of a friend of mine's friends' father! He saw a ghost of a civil war soldier..who was apparently looking for his grandson. (I think) , .who was in the Vietnam war!
Love, does prevail, my good friends, oh yeah, it does!
