Going Towards the LiGhT!

by Ladykelshan
 Age Group: Adult

I held unto her, and she held my hand tight, she said "please don't go, I won't feel right!"
"Don't worry!" I said, "I won't leave your side, I will stay with you, now, and later , tonight!"
We sat in the darkness with the lights streaming by, the curtains were closed, and by now, it was night.
SHe was sitting up in her bed, which was much like a gurney, she was ready to leave, prepared for her "journey".
""What do you think that , it'll be like? Will it be dark? or will there be light?" SHe pondered a moment, and looked over at me, to which I responded, quite genuinely.
"I don't know, I have never been even there, but when You see it, you'll know the bright glare."
You will walk towards the tunnel, take the hands of ones you know, You will walk forward to those and then you will go!"
"Hold my hand, cuz' I don't want to leave, hold it tighter!" she said, as she wheezed.
"Hey, take it easy, I'll help you up , here, you want to watch t.v., or you want to walk here?"
I thought that she might want to take a small walk, just a little break from the bed , ;she did not......
"No, I am sooo tired, I want to lie back, and she lay back on her pillows, eyed me, and kept track.....
the clock was ticking, the cars zoomed outside, the nurses were talking, and I sat beside, when
...suddenly she sat up, and sat up did she, "I see it!" she exclaimed "Oh, it's just so pretty!"
"Hey, I see"them", there's my family! They are waving at me, they want me to follow, " she said happily.
I sat there, bewildered, but, trying to not be sad, my friend's journey, was ready to be had.
I blinked back my tears, and held in my breath, as my beloved friend, walked towards "them" embracing her death.
"Goodbye, I'll miss you, I love you forever.!!!!".... I said to her, as she slipped passed in her endeavor......
to reach the white light, and all that it gave, she'd be alright, "she had it made"!
I sat there, in silence, my tears dropped like rain, even though she'd left me, I knew , I'd see her, .... again!
Author's Notes: By ladykelshan Written Saturday July 29th, 2006
I wanted to write a poem like this for a long time...and it almost seemed to write itself in some ways....I wrote it also for people that I have personally known and or know, that know others' of having similar experiences..with a loved one or close friends.
I also write this, in thinking of those people that have had serious illnesses and that have "moved on"...whereever you are, ....I am thinking about you! This poem was also inspired by an article in a magazine .
