I wonder about you.... (Our U.S. Soldiers)

by Ladykelshan
 Age Group: Adult

I wonder about you all in the war and what you do and how you do the things that you do to help and to keep peace in another place so far from home...
I think that my wonderings must be like all of the others from long time back, before I was born...I think about the children and the mothers and fathers that saw their children off to war...
what did they think, even then? How did it make them feel to recieve a letter from a young man fighting in a far off place? so far away from those people that he loved, and cherished?
When the radio spoke the news stories and everybody huddled around to hear what was happening next, yet they could only listen, and they couldn't see the planes flying, or the bombs dropping.... How did that feel to so many of those Americans then?
What did sisters and brothers think, the younger ones, who were left to stay at home, and only hear the gossip talkers and the newscasts, ....? How did it make them feel to collect the newspapers, and be the "collectors" in their neighborhoods for the war?
And when the movies came out, and they were about the heroes, and the better times, and about the patriotic times ahead...what was really going on in those young hearts , minds and souls of the youths not yet old enough to fight?
And how about our American Flag, that boldly fluttered and waved in the air so grand? The brightest red and white stripes, and the most beautiful stars as every flag waved in the harshest of winds..... what were all of our countries thoughts back then, in that time?
I go back, and I try to see what is similar then to now.... is anything the same? Is anything different, or is it all the same as it always has been, every time there was a war? What has changed, if anything at all?.......
I wonder about you, ... wherever you are, there in the dust, with your comrades, taking in each day, and each night, one at a time....the best way that you know how...and doing whatever you can to keep going, and to not ever think of giving in or giving up....
. I admire you so much... what you all have done in our nations history and what you all are doing right now.... You are indeed owed so much more than the money and the benefits that you get, ....you are owed so much and then some more!!
You have taken so many risks for people, and for yourselves, this is a heavy responsibility that I can't see as a "nowhere, nothing, doesn't amount to much type of job!" This is what a lot of Americans see this as...but, this , what you all do, is a job!!!! and a heavy, heavy one at that...with so much obligations and intensity....for the nation for our world.......
I just think and I just wonder about you....... and I find that you all, have done some heavy things for all of us, and though it was excrutiating and painful beyond belief...I know that you did a great, great job...and don't ever let somebody tell you that you didn't do sh*t!
Your job is vital for living and for each generation...you make it "possible" for so many new generations to be able to live here!! and to still continue to stay here.... May you always have the help that you so need, and the greatest support whereever you are, and whereever you go! you truly are some very amazing people....that is why I often think and wonder about you.........

I really do have a lot of admiration for all of you...I think about a long time back especially during the time when my mom and dad were young...times were really different then...but, in each war time...there is a "Feel" to each era that passes....there is sooo much that you never hear about...real feelings and dreams, and thoughts and feedback...some that we will never ever hear about...but, they DID happen..and they WERE real! I just wanted to say what I had to say....I guess you could say that I am kind of at times one of those "really deep thinkers"...some people tell me I have an old soul!
Just really felt like writing what I felt out..and saying these things to you !
I wish you the best...where ever you are, and take care of yourselves...you really are some great , great people!
