sad beginning

by Aine

Age Group: Teen

Come to the first
time of life
live it, breath it, feel it
resonating in your bones
the earth moves for you
shaking, rattling for your pleasure
how sad you miss it all
the months
the birth
the happy pain
no child will ever feel your warmth
no resolution will ever befall you
and for that sad truth
spurs an even sadder beginning

Author's Notes: My friend at school, had an abortion recently, and I was shocked to find out she was even pregnant. I asked her why she aborted the child, and she replied, " I never thought I'd get pregnant and ain't nobody gonna raise the child, I don't even know who the father is. So why should I care, it's not like it's a big deal." I shocked me to here a person I thought had some sort of feeling in her talk that way. She was, and is a bright girl and her family is by no means poor, yet she seems to think the world is against her and the only way to fit in is to spread one legs and invite any man inside. At this same time I found that many of my class mate who, some where not even of the legal age to have sex, where having sex, like it was the new trend. My school is not that big maybe 40 students and 80 percent of the students are having sex, like it's the latest fall fashion! I thought of this poem for all the cold females in my school who, if they get pregnant which some of the have abort the child as though it was a pesky infection. Now I believe women have the right to an abortion, but not like this.
