New Beginning

The night is clear, the Moon is sending
rays of silver through time unending.
Pale shafts of moonlight fill the room,
surround me as if in a womb
as sadness fills me, yet I feel
the Goddess lives, Her children tending.
Light glitters off my tears of sorrow
for my broken dreams of tomorrow.
Cold memories of yesterday
and all the years I threw away
come back to haunt me like a ghost.
The strength of friends I need to borrow.
The band of gold remains unbroken
though promises and vows he's spoken
have long since become faded sound
like autumn leaves that fall to ground
and swirl away; a summer past,
frail memories - a dismal token.
I thrust my athame high in the night
its blade draws power from the moonlight.
Now it is charged and so am I,
my gaze shifts upward to the sky.
In wordless awe I thank the Moon
Her glowing beauty shines full and bright.
Now suddenly my new life I see,
the Goddess smiles and sets my heart free.
I know that I will love again,
the world is full of better men.
I'll search for one whom I can love
and I shall find one who will love me.
Author's Notes: This was written in 1989 shortly after I divorced my first husband after 7 years of marriage. Years later, I found a wonderful man and remarried in 1995. Sadly, he passed away quite suddenly of a heart attack in 1996. I then remarried again in 2001.
