Those Who Will Not See

Age Group: Adult
Time has corroded my hinges;
the wheels no longer turn;
no measures in these wonderful machines:
the worlds of yesterday stands still.
And yet no soul steps forth,
with or without great wisdom,
to clear the sands of time
that have bound my mind and age.
I give out my command:
Search, Seek, Come Forth:
Claim and Gather the Lost Teachings!
But only deaf ears strain to listen.
I weep; what is there left to do?
What solace would I find
in this forgetful race of man,
who turns away from history;
their blind, pretty eyes:
so cared for by the doctors of the age:
those witless re-inventors,
who trod the ground I paved!
And give no thanks, no consideration,
to those sages that came before them.
You say you are alone in this great universe,
which seemingly just came to be
for the fulfillment of your selfish needs;
and those great works to aggrandize
your staggering ego that weighs down
upon those who dare to Seek:
my wisdom and my knowledge of the past–
which is in all ways your forebear
and surpasses even the wildest dreams
of those pitiful blind men looking
for the mysteries in the universe
that I once preached with liberty.
Author's Notes: Here I was somewhat mad at the way our modern society simply takes things for granted, especially history. The past always seems to be gone, vacant, and dead. I disagree--the past is alive! One would do well to remember it, honor it, and learn from it.
