Medication Nation

Lie back now and close your eyes
This little pill has a big surprise
It will pick you up if you’re feeling down
It will make you smile when you want to frown
Feeling sad? No, that won’t do
Take another, yes, take two
Feeling angry, frustrated, depressed?
Take this one, it eliminates stress
If it’s feelings that you want to numb
Well this one here will make you dumb
Ever feel like you’re going crazy?
Here’s a pill, might make you a bit hazy
Can’t concentrate? Mind’s a mess?
Here’s one to make it a little less
Is anxiety ruining your mood?
Make sure to take this one with food
Having trouble getting to sleep?
This one will have you counting sheep
You just want to dull your senses?
“Little white houses with picket fences”
I notice your child is a little hyper
Even though he’s still in diapers
This pill will help to calm him down
Little prince with a pill-bottle crown
You can overachieve and do it all
This little pill won’t let you fall
It’s like a friend, it’ll help you out
You’ll have no need for worry or doubt
Don’t let those feelings creep up on you
Hey, maybe you should take a few
It’ll do no harm, no side effects
Be sure to sign your name on all the checks
Now where is my prescription pad?
People steal them, it’s really sad
They say they’ll die, they think they will
If they don’t get this little pill
Don’t know why they feel that way
I write a hundred of these a day
No one ever comes in to complain
They say the pills relieve the pain
You’re not the only one, you see
They all line up to pay my fee
My next patient is already here

Author's Notes: First I'd like to state that I AM NOT ON TOM CRUISE'S TEAM! (heehee) I believe there are people who benefit from psychiatric medicines, and who am I to tell someone what works for them? This is just my take on the state of our country where drugs are concerned, especially anti-depressants. I know from experience how these work to completely numb you to any emotional connections. I have a big problem with people being treated for "mental disorders" when it really is a matter of emotional issues that medications don't treat, only relieve symptoms. People under-estimate the power of our minds to make ourselves sick, and to heal ourselves. We all want a "magic little pill" to "fix" us...when really we all have the ability to do it ourselves.
