Woe, that street, woe
The lights gone out
The sidewalks green
With so much moss and weed
The city slumbers here
Of gaunt, sad people
With their empty dreams
And midnight's moon
Throws light on them
Nightmare world of woe
Parker Avenue
Yeah, that low it's gone
Inhospitable's a palace
Compared to this
The pond of missery
The lakeshore quagmire
Where you dream and sink
Where you fall below
The margins of the page
Of a dusty book made brown
As if paper rusts
Once it is forgotten
Author's Notes: Interestingly, my grandparents live on a Parker Avenue... but the actual street is much nicer than the ficticious one. Still... I've seen the kind. Haven't you?
