One Would Think

One Would Think
One would think I have nothing
But in truth I have it all
Materialism is of little value
When love does find its way
Run down walls that fade to gray
A tiny apartment
That has seen better days
Still, it is mine
And I treasure it
For it is filled with hope
Offered to me by an angel
Who in the beginning I would beg to go
Yet from my side would never leave
Gently kneading me
To live, to love and to dream
To sing when skies should darken
The music through which my soul escapes
He who has taught me to love and be loved
He who embraces me in times alone
He who nourishes me
He who comforts and heals me
He who fills me with laughter
When youthful images serve as a reminder
The one who, when the moment is right
Releases me to fly
So I have learned the value of a heart
Without pettiness and battles that are rarely won
So oft its power underestimated
Emotion that can brave all storms
Where all becomes unhidden
Together we have crossed that plane
Reached across a blackened void
To lie beneath the warming rays
Cherished, loved and protected
Where moonlight caresses
And roses eternally bloom
